Lawcus offers a powerful feature that allows you to streamline your task management process by setting due dates for tasks based on completing other tasks. This capability ensures that your legal workflows remain organized and efficient, promoting better collaboration and time management within your firm. In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to set task due dates based on another task in Lawcus, helping you optimize your productivity and stay on top of your legal matters.

To set the due date of a task based on another task:

  1. Navigate to the left side menu and click on “Tasks” to open the task list.

  2. Create the parent task that will serve as the trigger for the dependent task's due date. You can either use “Write a task name” or “New Task”. Learn more about creating a new task here.

  3. Complete all the task details, such as the title, matter or lead name, and due date. See how to connect a task to a matter or lead here.

  4. Set up the dependent task, which will inherit its due date from the parent task.

Note: If you have an existing task, whether it's a dependent or parent task, and one of them is missing, create the missing task first. Then, follow the steps below to set the due date based on the parent task. Click on the dependent task to proceed.

  5. Instead of setting a specific due date, select the checkbox "Trigger due date based on another task" option.

  6. Select the parent task you created earlier from the drop-down menu "Completion of." In the "Quantity" field, enter the number of days you want to add or subtract from the parent task's completion date. Choose between "Business Days" or "Calendar Days" to define the type of days to consider. Select "Before" if you want the dependent task's due date to be earlier than the parent task's completion date, or choose "After" if you want it to be later.

  7. Click on “Done” to complete the “Due Date” selection process.

  8. Finally, click on “Update” for an existing task and “Add/Save” for a new task to complete it.

Note:

  • Business Days: Counts only working days (excluding weekends and holidays).

  • Calendar Days: Counts all days, including weekends and holidays.

Note: You establish a task dependency by setting the dependent task's due date based on the parent task's completion date. The dependent task will not have a fixed due date until the parent task is marked as completed. Once the parent task is marked as done, the due date for the dependent task will automatically adjust according to the set duration or delay.

To modify task dependencies:

  • Locate the dependent task you wish to modify in the task management section.

  • Click on the task to open its details.

  • Find the "Due Date" field and choose a new parent task or set a fixed due date if needed.

Efficient task management is crucial for the success of your legal projects, and Lawcus simplifies the process with its task dependency feature. Setting task due dates based on other tasks ensures that your team operates cohesively, easily meeting deadlines and driving productivity. Now that you know how to set task due dates based on another task in Lawcus, streamline your workflow and take your legal practice to the next level.
