VIP VoIP Integration with Lawcus

Step-by-step guide to integrate VIP VoIP with Lawcus for click-to-dial and call logging.

The VIP VoIP integration with Lawcus allows firms to place calls directly from Lawcus using the Click-to-Dial feature and automatically log call activity against contacts and matters. This integration helps ensure all communication records remain centralized within Lawcus.

How to Integrate VIP VoIP with Lawcus

Step 1: Create and Log In to a VIP VoIP User Extension

To enable Click-to-Dial, you must first ensure that a user extension is created in VIP VoIP.

  1. Create a user extension in VIP VoIP.

  2. Log in to the VIP VoIP Browser Phone using the user login details.

Step 2: Enable Lawcus Integration for Call Logging

When creating or editing a VIP VoIP webphone user:

  1. Open the user’s login settings.

  2. Enable the Law software integration option.

  3. Tick Enable Lawcus.

  4. Select the corresponding Lawcus user.

  5. Save the changes.

This step activates call logging between VIP VoIP and Lawcus.


Step 3: Install the VIP VoIP Browser Phone Application

Google Chrome

  1. Log in to the VIP VoIP Browser Phone in Chrome

  2. Look for the install icon (monitor icon with a downward arrow) near the address bar

  3. Hover until you see the prompt “Install VIP VoIP”

  4. Click the prompt and follow the installation steps.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Log in to the VIP VoIP Browser Phone in Edge

  2. Click the app install icon (three squares with a “+”)

  3. Select Click to install.

  4. Approve prompts for alerts and sound access.

  5. (Recommended) Enable the following options:

    • Pin to Taskbar

    • Pin to Start

    • Create Desktop Shortcut

    • Auto-start on device login

  6. Click Allow to confirm.

Once installed, the browser phone will open in a separate window and can be pinned to your desktop. Click-to-Dial will not work correctly if the app is only used inside the browser tab.

Step 4: Set VIP VoIP as the Default App for Click-to-Dial

Once the Application is installed, we next need to set the default App as the VIP

VoIP app to be used for :TEL links on your PC. This setting will allow the PC to

initiate calls via the correct app when clicking a link within the Lawcus software.

  1. Open System Settings on your computer

  2. Go to Apps → Default Apps

  3. Search for TEL.

  4. Set the default TEL handler to the VIP VoIP application.

Step 5: Link Your Lawcus Account

  1. Open the VIP VoIP browser phone.

  2. Click Login to Lawcus.

  3. Enter your Lawcus email address and password.

  4. Click Allow to authorize access.

Once connected, your Lawcus contacts will show in the Lawcus

contacts section of your browser phone application and your contacts should have

pulled through to your address book.


Initiate Calls from Lawcus (Click-to-Dial)

After setup is complete:

  • Open a contact or matter in Lawcus.

  • Click on the phone number.

  • The VIP VoIP browser phone will open and initiate the call.

    Once the call is initiated, you should see the web browser app open and display the "live" call. If the person is in your contacts, their name and number should also appear.

If prompted, please tick the box to "Always allow" and then also click "Open Pick an application"


Next, click and select “VIP VoIP” and select "Always"


Log Calls from VIP VoIP into Lawcus

To associate calls with Lawcus records:

  1. Open the Recent Calls tab in the VIP VoIP browser phone.

  2. Locate the call and click the Contact icon.

  3. Select Log call in Lawcus.

  4. Choose the contact and matter.

  5. Add a subject and notes.

  6. (Optional) Include the full call transcription.

  7. Click Save.

A success message will confirm the call has been logged in Lawcus.


Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

FAQ1: Does this affect existing calls or matters?

No. Only new calls logged after integration will sync to Lawcus.

FAQ2: Why is Click-to-Dial not working?

Common causes:

  • VIP VoIP Browser Phone app not installed

  • TEL protocol not set to VIP VoIP

  • Browser Phone running inside a tab instead of the app window

FAQ3: Can multiple users connect VIP VoIP to Lawcus?

Yes. Each user must:

  • Have their own VIP VoIP extension

  • Enable Lawcus integration at the user level

  • Authorize their Lawcus account individually
