Lawcus offers a powerful feature that allows you to streamline your task management process by setting due dates for tasks based on completing other tasks. This capability ensures that your legal workflows remain organized and efficient, promoting better collaboration and time management within your firm.

Steps to set the due date of a task based on another task

  1. First, Add or Edit the parent task.

A Parent Task is a task that determines the due date of another task. In other words, the due date of the Child Task depends on the due date of the Parent Task.
  2. Set up the Dependent/Child task, which will inherit its due date from the parent task.

  3. Instead of setting a specific due date, select the checkbox Trigger due date based on another task option.

  4. Select the parent task you created earlier from the drop-down menu Completion of.

  5. In the Quantity field, enter the number of days you want to add or subtract from the parent task's completion date. Choose between Business Days or Calendar Days to define the type of days to consider. Select Before if you want the dependent task's due date to be earlier than the parent task's completion date, or choose After if you want it to be later.

  6. Click on Done to complete the Due Date selection process.

  7. Finally, click on Update for an existing task and Add/Save for a new task to complete it.

  • Business Days: Counts only working days (excluding weekends and holidays).

  • Calendar Days: Counts all days, including weekends and holidays.

Important Point: You must select the Matter/Lead of the dependent task and upon selection, it will show only the tasks associated with that matter to select as the parent task.

Note: You establish a task dependency by setting the dependent task's due date based on the parent task's completion date. The dependent task will not have a fixed due date until the parent task is marked as completed. Once the parent task is marked as done, the due date for the dependent task will automatically adjust according to the set duration or delay.

Steps to Modify Task Dependencies

  1. Locate the dependent task you wish to modify in the task management section.

  2. Click on the task to open its details.

  3. Find the Due Date field and choose a new parent task or set a fixed due date if needed. You can also update the trigger conditions and finally click on Done followed by Update.
