How to Set Up the eSign Document Signed Trigger in Lawcus

Learn how to set up the eSign Document Signed trigger to automatically run workflows whenever an eSign document is completed.

Written by Akshat Agarwal

The eSign Document Signed trigger automatically starts a workflow as soon as a recipient completes and signs an eSign document sent from Lawcus. This helps you keep your firm’s momentum going without waiting around, allowing you to instantly notify team members, update matter or lead statuses, convert leads into matters, or assign follow-up tasks the second a document is signed.

Configure the eSign Document Signed Trigger

When creating a workflow:

  • Under Step 1 – Setup Trigger Type, click the Select Trigger dropdown.

  • Select eSign document signed.

  • Click Continue.

The workflow will automatically evaluate conditions whenever any eSign document is signed across your system.

Add Entry Rules

By default, this trigger will run whenever any eSign document is completed. If you want the workflow to run only when a specific document or template is signed, expand the optional Entry Rules section.

Entry Rules allow you to set smart conditions, such as filtering by the Template Name (e.g., "Fee Agreement" or "Retainer Agreement") or other matter/lead attributes, ensuring the workflow fires only for the exact document you intend.

For detailed instructions on configuring these filters, check out our Entry Rules article.

Select Actions

Once your trigger and entry rules are set, click Continue to choose your automated actions. You can pick any action from the available list based on your firm's process, such as:

  • Converting a Lead into a Matter automatically once a fee agreement is signed.

  • Sending confirmation emails to your client or internal team.

  • Updating Matter or Lead details (such as moving the stage forward).

  • Creating follow-up tasks for your team to begin work on the case.

Summary

The eSign Document Signed trigger ensures that your administrative next steps kick off immediately after a document is signed. With no extra setup needed out of the box, you can use Entry Rules to filter for specific template names and pick any automated actions to keep your practice moving smoothly.
