How to Set Up the User-Activated Trigger in Lawcus

Learn how to set up and manually run a workflow using the User Activated trigger for maximum flexibility and control.

Written by Devanshi Kackar

The User Activated trigger allows you to build a complete, multi-step automation sequence once, and then let team members launch it manually whenever needed. This is ideal for complex, unique, or non-routine cases where you prefer human discretion before running an automation sequence, making it an easy, one-click solution for team members of all technical levels.

Configure the User-Activated Trigger

When creating a workflow:

  • Under Step 1 – Setup Trigger Type, click the Select Trigger dropdown.

  • Select User activated.

  • Click Continue.

The workflow will be saved and made available for team members to run manually on demand.

Add Entry Rules

Though this workflow is manually activated, you can still expand the optional Entry Rules section if you want to enforce specific safety checks.

Entry Rules ensure that even if a team member clicks Apply Workflow, the automated sequence will only execute if the specific Matter or Lead meets your predefined criteria (such as having specific custom fields populated or tags attached).

For help setting up these filters, refer to our Entry Rules article.

Select Actions

After setting up your trigger, click Continue to configure all the automated actions you want this workflow to run when activated. You build these actions out once during setup, and Lawcus will execute them in sequence whenever the workflow is launched. You can choose any action from the available list, such as:

  • Starting an automated follow-up email sequence to clients.

  • Generating invoices or billing requests.

  • Creating a set of tasks for yourself or assigned team members.

  • Updating matter or lead details automatically.

How Team Members Run a User-Activated Workflow

Once your workflow and its actions are saved, any team member can launch it directly from a Matter or Lead:

  1. Open the specific Matter or Lead in Lawcus.

  2. Go to the Quick Actions tab.

  3. Click the Apply Workflow button.

  4. Choose the desired workflow from the list to trigger all of its pre-configured actions instantly.

Summary

The User Activated trigger bridges the gap between powerful automation and human control. By setting up your actions ahead of time, any team member can launch complex, multi-step processes, like creating tasks, initiating email chains, or generating invoices with a single click under the Quick Actions tab.
